Anything there?

Here is a magnified version of the same picture. The boys see a little girl behind the boys and slightly to the right. She is behind a tree or something, peeking around the tree and reaching for something.

Maybe

This is one that the boys are sure that they see. Here is the original.

Closer Up

Here are two enlargements. One is in the middle of the picture and some see a shadowy white figure in the background near the bench. This is the area where the "ghost" greets visitors and asks them to leave. The other image is to the far left, below center. It looks like a man waking with his face turned to the camera.

Other Images?

This one is harder to see. Here is the picture that we took.

Green Boy

In this one, between the curtains there appears to be the face of a boy staring out at us. Because the face is green, and because it looks like there is something else in the picture, I again wrote the Myrtles and asked about what was behind the window here and specifically asked whether there were any plants in this location. The answer was that the only plants are upstairs, and that there was nothing in this location to account for this image either.

The Front Door

Everyone who has seen this image sees two small children in the panes of glass on the door. Look at the two bottom panes on the door. On the pane to the left, there is an image of a small boy who is facing slightly to the left. In the pane to the right, between the two gold leaf strips, there is a small girl looking directly into the camera. Some of seen other images, one according to them, in the middle of the boy and the girl. These images are not as clear as the "Chloe" image, but they can be seen.

Close Up

When we enlarged the picture and focused on the area near the small wooden building, this is what we found. I contacted the Myrtles and asked whether anything in that area could account for what we saw. The answer was no. To us, it looks like a profile view of a woman in a purple dress with a turban on her head. Chloe, according to legend, wore a turban following the incident where they cut off her ear. To really see what we are talking about, click on the image for a larger view. Then look at the area next to the tree, above the girl with her hands in her pockets.

Interesting Pictures

Evan invited me to go to his field trip to the Myrtles plantation in St. Francisville. I'd been there before, and years ago, I'd met the owner, John Moss. John had lots of interesting stories about his experiences there and I'd always been intrigued about the place. During the tour we were told that many times guests who take the tour find interesting images in the pictures that they take there. When we came home we began to closely analyze some of the pictures that we took. To put the pictures into perspective, here is the story we were told. The Myrtles was built upon a former Indian burial ground. Years later a family moved in. The family had two small children, and a slave named Chloe. Chloe was prone to eavesdropping and as a result, as punishment, her ear was cut off. In retaliation, Chloe poisoned the children and was later killed. The ghosts of Chloe and the children are often seen and heard around the plantation. Another story is that another ghost, a man, greets visitors at times and tells them to leave. The first image here is of the back yard of the Myrtles.
